An interactive talk, followed by a discussion, about the meaning of friendship in both Sufism and Buddhism. Less an academic treatment of the traditions themselves than an extended reflection, we will look at the nature of friendship, both literal and metaphorical, through the lenses of both these traditions.
Drawing mainly on poetry and examples of inspiring spiritual friendships like that of Rumi and Shams, it will touch on questions like: what is a friend? How should we choose our friends? And what is the value of friendship, both in everyday life and on the spiritual path?
This time, we want to make the session more interactive. You’ll have multiple opportunities to contribute your thoughts. If you have poems or other short texts exploring friendship from your own tradition, please bring them with you. After the talk, you can share them with us for a more personal and meaningful discussion.
Please, note:
- the total duration of the event is 1 hour ( ~ 50mins lecture and 10mins Q&A)
