This is a series of workshops designed by Azumi Uchitani to explore Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy and language. We will meet bi-weekly, slowly moving from season to season and uncovering new characters, rituals, concepts and beliefs deeply rooted in Japanese lifestyle. Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through calligraphy practice.
Deep focus: 夢中 (muchū)
Join our Japanese Calligraphy session and explore the profound concept of 夢中 (muchū), as part of our monthly theme, Visions and Illusions. The kanji 夢 (yume) represents “dream,” encompassing both the subconscious world and aspirational imagination that transcends reality. Combined with 中 (chū), meaning “middle,” 夢中 evokes the state of being so deeply immersed in a dream or pursuit that one forgets everything else—a beautiful balance between focus, passion, and illusion. Whether you’re new to calligraphy or an experienced artist, this workshop is an opportunity to connect with the ephemeral beauty of Japanese aesthetics. Let your brush guide you into a state of creative flow as we explore the art of dreams and illusions.
This event is exclusively for LEVEL members. You can become a member, or alternatively, purchase a trial ticket below.
