The Mind’s Mirage: A Scientific Account of the Illusion of Self

This lecture will explore how the science of brain and behaviour gets to the heart of what makes us who we are – or perhaps, what makes us seem to be. In this lecture, we will journey through how the intricate processes of our mind acting in dynamic and shifting environments reveal a self that is not a static entity, but a dynamic, evolving illusion. Using real scientific evidence and neuroscientific case studies, we will consider the neural and behavioural forces that craft our identity, prompting you to reconsider what you thought you knew about being “you.” Join us for an adventure into the enigmatic landscape of the self – a landscape where reality can sometimes be far more surprising than fiction.
