As the climate crisis debate ramps up and activist groups prepare for what is likely to be a summer of action, we take a look back at environmental action, theory and culture and discuss the effectiveness of action and future methods and ideologies. From the very beginnings of climate action to the explosion of an international intergenerational movement that has since brought cities to a halt and dominated the national press, we discuss the potential pitfalls and successes such groups have faced. In the wake of COP26, this talk gives us the opportunity to reflect on how to effect change through direct action and how we can make such campaigns more effective, inclusive of indigenous and international voices and whether we as the people truly can curb the climate crisis.
