Borders, Boundaries & Bodies: Exploring Cosmopolitanism in and across Iranian Cinema

The concept of cosmopolitanism invites us to think about our connections to one another. It asks us to consider ourselves as members of something larger. It can be argued that cosmopolitanism promotes the notion of community and collectivity.

In this talk, we’ll be asking how these ideas show up on the screen. We’ll travel to contemporary Iranian cinema, to explore the ways borders, boundaries, and bodies intersect to get us to think about collectivity. More importantly, we’ll be asking why this collectivity matters, and why it matters so much now.
