This is a series of workshops designed by Azumi Uchitani to explore Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy and language. We will meet bi-weekly, slowly moving from season to season and uncovering new characters, rituals, concepts and beliefs deeply rooted in Japanese lifestyle. Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through calligraphy practice.
Balance: å¹³
Join us for a new Japanese Calligraphy workshop where we’ll focus on the kanji å¹³ (balance). In alignment with our monthly theme, ‘Virtues and Vices’, this session will explore the concept of balance in life, emphasising moderation, equilibrium, and harmony. As we delve into the art of calligraphy, we will reflect on how this character embodies the essence of balance in everyday life, but also how it becomes an essential part of ‘peace’ concept (平和) in Japanese culture. Join us to discover the beauty of this traditional art form while gaining insights into the broader concept of balance in both personal and cultural contexts.
