This is a series of workshops designed by Azumi Uchitani to explore Japanese culture through the art of calligraphy and language. We will meet bi-weekly, slowly moving from season to season and uncovering new characters, rituals, concepts and beliefs deeply rooted in Japanese lifestyle. Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through calligraphy practice.
Patience: 忍 (nin/ shinobu)
‘Good things come to those who wait’ is an amazing reminder to our fast-paced cultures. Meanwhile, Japanese culture is naturally among the ones to look up to when we think about patience and tranquillity. It is a sign of maturity to stay patient and navigate feelings when facing the unpredictable. Being able to coexist within an island country and to maintain social harmony and peace requires an idea of tolerance to something beyond human’s control. Patience is religiously accepted across different social groups and helps navigate challenges in work as well as private lives.
Join Azumi Uchitani for a Japanese calligraphy session on Patience.
