Nakama and Gambaru: Uniting through Spirit and Sport

We are excited to announce a new event exploring the unique aspects of the Japanese mentality and how it fosters a spirit of unity and perseverance in sports and other activities. Central to this mindset are the concepts of Gambaru (to persist and give one’s best effort) and Nakama (close-knit comradeship), which together enable Japanese people to achieve what might seem impossible. During the talk, we will discuss how this mentality is reflected in Japanese culture, including examples from the popular anime One Piece, where characters demonstrate the power of mutual support and determination. We’ll also explore how this sense of bonding and teamwork translates to sports, where shared effort and camaraderie are deeply ingrained. This special approach to collective strength is something truly unique in Japanese culture, and we invite you to join us in discovering it.
