Join us for an illuminating lecture where we delve into the timeless classics “The Pillow Book” and “The Tale of Genji.” In “The Pillow Book,” written by Sei Shōnagon during the Heian period, readers are transported into the intimate thoughts and reflections of a lady-in-waiting at the Japanese imperial court. This collection of essays, anecdotes, and observations offers a glimpse into the intricacies of court life and the innermost desires of its characters. Similarly, “The Tale of Genji,” penned by Murasaki Shikibu, is a masterpiece of Japanese literature, chronicling the life and loves of Prince Genji and his pursuit of passion and enlightenment. Within the pages of these revered works, secrets are revealed, and confessions are made, painting a vivid portrait of human nature and societal norms. Join us as we explore the hidden depths of these literary treasures and uncover the profound truths concealed within their narratives.

SPEAKER – AZUMI UCHITANI

Azumi Uchitani is an Intercultural business consultant, keynote speaker, writer, artist and founder of Japanese SALON art & culture, based in the Netherlands. She is a two-times TEDx speaker, appearing Dutch TV and media and delivering talks to an international audience in Europe and in the US. Azumi decodes the complexity of Japanese culture, tradition, philosophy, spirituality and unspoken rules into a simple essence of wisdom. She was born into a traditional spiritual Japanese family and raised with the teachings of Shingon Buddhism and Shinto. The spiritual and cultural practices, such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy have always been a part of her life, besides that, her grandmother was a kimono maker.
