Japanese Calligraphy: 女 Onna (Woman)
This 1st spring session will focus on character 女 Onna (Woman) and explore the Art of Femininity. On the third day of March Japan celebrates a national Girl’s day & Hina Matsuri, Dolls festival to commemorate growth, happiness, and prosperity of young girls.
Nurturing Nature: Shinto Principles and Environment
As we face global environmental problems, Shinto principles of not only appreciating nature, but recognising that nature is the source of life, gain critical importance. Self-awareness, purification of thoughts and intentions, ethics rooted in respect to nature revives old wisdom which seems to be so relevant today.
Japanese Calligraphy: 梅 Ume
The 4th winter session will focus on character 梅 Ume (Plum blossom) and explore The Art of Ume. Ume is known as the flower of February which starts blossoming at the end of winter in Japan. It is a special flower that has been a popular theme of Japanese paintings and poetry for centuries. Ume symbolises perseverance and hope, as well as beauty, purity, and the transitoriness of life.
Japanese Calligraphy: 雪Yuki
The 3rd winter session will focus on character 雪 Yuki (Snow) and explore The Art of Winter.
Japanese Calligraphy: 松 Matsu
The 2nd winter session will focus on character 松 Matsu (Pine tree) and explore The Art of Matsu. Matsu is a Japanese auspicious tree and iconic symbol that represents longevity, youth, eternity and power. Matsu is especially used at the beginning of the year as a New Year decoration.
Japanese Calligraphy: 初Hatsu
This 1st winter session of Japanese Calligraphy series will focus on character 初 - Hatsu (Hajime) and explore The Art of Beginning. The concept of a new beginning is symbolic and is surrounded by various practices. The start of the new year represents new beginnings to the Japanese, which signifies the best time to refresh one’s blessings, recite prayers and reflect on wishes for the coming days.
Japanese Calligraphy: The Art of Light
Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through a calligraphy practice. During the short meditation you will be invited to a moment of alignment between your body and soul, to find a channel through which you can listen to your inner voice. This approach helps to concentrate and sense the power of now. This time we will focus on character HIKARI and explore The Art of Light.

Each event we will centre around a new symbol: we will learn its meaning, discuss a poem about it, meditate and experience the power of the concept through a calligraphy practice. This approach helps to concentrate and sense the power of now. This time we will focus on character JAKU and explore The art of Stillness.
